Among many things that I wish to respond to because they struck so deeply, there was a single line in Song's last audio that jumped out at me: "Children learning how to edit their own stuff"
I cannot express how much I love that.

I'm going to find a quiet spot today and create a new audio. I recorded the talk the other night but there's much background noise from someone constantly fussling around with the food and drinks: due to this, I'm changing the format of the talks on Wednesdays so that I can record it with less noise.

It was a good talk and I'll post it up here if individuals think it's worth it and they can listen without being distracted by the background noise. I'll see if I can edit the worst of the fussling out. :)

(realised keeping the audios in the Audio room made more sense :P )

rambling thought stream ahoy, on cohesion, connection and my current evolution

I was being quiet in order to not wake the Tiny Empress, so I might sound a bit stoned. lol.

This is totally not a picture of my desk. I am not currently stoned. You *may* or may not believe me, but rejoicingly I don't have to worry about that bit. :D

Songs, I freely admit I'm an idiot on many levels, and being able to listen to/download this audio is one of them. I tried, I failed, I'll try again tomorrow because I really want to hear this and I might be smarter tomorrow. :D

You should just be able to press 'play' and have it play- are you seeing an actual 'play' button or what is showing up for you? On my computer there is a little window with a play/pause button, so I just use that.

Let me know what's happening at your end and I'll help out as much as I can. :)

Is there anyone else that can't see the little audio window?

Hi Songs, all I am getting is a cross 'x' in a square box.

I tried left click - nothing. Then right click. Right click said I could 'play', but nothing further....

Zip, nada, zero....

Never mind...

Just a guess, the problem could be that the newest audio is in Ogg Vorbis format (which is open and unpatented but I would guess has less support) while the earlier ones were in MP3.

A temporary workaround: Download the file from here and play it in VLC Media Player, a program which will work with almost every type of media format.

Jury's out on how to make individual browsers compatible with filetypes (probably some type of plugin).

For the record, the embedded audio here has always been finicky for me. Never see anything in Firefox and only sometimes in Chrome (playing with the refresh button is fun :D ). Maybe providing a direct link to the file underneath the embedded audio would be a good idea.

I've never had the audios show up in the latest Firefox (17.0.1) on my Ubuntu (Linux) machine, well, until today for some reason (lovely, after I posted this, they all disappeared). It would be good to include a download link along with each post, which will work with any browser no matter how old. For example:

(download)

Since phpBB is converting the [mp3=...] into the proper HTML, I wonder whether it could be told to automatically generate a separate download link.

As a last resort, anyone can always either hit Quote on the post and copy the link from the quoted material in the edit text box, or View Page Source in their web browser to find the .ogg or .mp3 link.

I can't remember why we tried an ogg file rather than the mp3, so if it's not showing up at all I'll reformat it and put it up as an mp3 file, along with the download links. It's rather annoying that it's not working, I think I'll start uploading them on youtube and doing it that way because I much prefer recording to writing.

Update: I've gone through and added a download link to the talks, I'll work on getting a more robust platform so that audio works better here and I'm pushing my Self to get this fucking video editing software working SOMEWHERE so that I can post them as youtube vids.

That should do the trick. :D
